Adding a free Guestbook, Forum or Chatroom to your Freeserve webpages

(Please note: I have no official link with Freeserve, other than as a satisfied customer.)

Guestbooks

Guestbooks allow visitors to leave messages and comments for other visitors to see.

Here's an example of one from Bravenet

There are more free guestbooks to choose from at http://www.freewarehome.com/ and http://www.thefreesite.com/.

Forums

Forums are similar to Guestbooks, but visitors' comments are presented in a thread like a newsgroup and you can reply to individual messages.

I set one up with Delphi a long time ago at http://forums.delphi.com/m/main.asp?sigdir=Zymous, but anybody wanting to add a comment has to "join" Delphi first which I would find very off putting if I were the visitor.

The forum provided by Bravenet is less intrusive.

Chatrooms

Chatrooms allow an interactive text-based chat with someone else. Delphi (See Forums above) also provide chat rooms. Xoom provide a Java based chat room as part of their service, and because it's splattered in advertising you're free to use it on non-Xoom pages as well. Xoom send you junk email, but you can unsubscribe from their announcements list.

Here's a . You will notice that again you have to "join" to be able to engage in chat, but there appears to be no proper validation of email addresses, username or passwords ;-). Here's the real thing. I've not tested it at busy times - it might be very slow or not work at all.

Bravenet also provide a Java based chat room.
